Before you get started

  • Good net connectedness.
  • File sizes that tin can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed upwards if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 x 256.
  • File types that can exist backed up.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Alive photos tin exist backed up if you utilize the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

There are 2 means to back up your phone, camera, or storage card from your reckoner:

  1. Install Fill-in and Sync.
  2. Upload photos from your browser.

Set up Google Drive for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Account.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to support and thenBack up to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSave.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your computer that you previously backed upwards to Google Photos, information technology stays in Google Photos.
  • If y'all remove a photo or video from Google Photos, it isn't removed from Google Drive or your calculator.
  • Uploads tin can be slower and use more storage if you back up to both Google Photos and Google Drive. Unless yous demand a 2nd copy in Drive, we recommend yous support photos and videos to Google Photos.

If you already accept Fill-in and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is now Google Drive for desktop.

If you already have Backup and Sync installed, you'll exist migrated to Google Drive for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Backup and Sync and and then follow the steps above to set Google Bulldoze for desktop.

Select a different upload size

You tin can change the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your computer.

Important: You can't change the upload size for files synced with Google Bulldoze.

Back up your Apple Photo Library (Mac only)

If your computer runs macOS, you can back up your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If you have more than one Apple Photos Library, only the System Photo Library will be backed up. Yous can use Apple tree Photos to change the Organization Photo Library.
  • If your Apple Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and cloud will be backed up to Google Photos on macOS x.15 and higher up.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the top right, click Upload and thenEstimator.
  3. Find and select your photos.
  4. Click Open up.

You tin can also elevate photos from your calculator to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If y'all drag a photo to a specific album, the photo will exist uploaded to that album.

View where your photos & videos were uploaded from

In Google Photos, you lot can view how you uploaded your photos and videos.
